Young Gardener Step 2

It's been awhile since I've been able to work on this. It was supposed to be something to fill in time between other projects but the others have taken all my time. I'll try and keep working on this just to get it out of the way.

I added more splotches of greens trying to get closer to the darker values. Next I'll be lifting out stems to try and get a feel of where the plants are standing so I can make the structures more realistic.

Young Gardener step 1

I started this one yesterday but I am almost reluctant to show it. It is at a very ugly stage. It is 20 x 24" on hot pressed paper (I am trying to use up my stock as I really don't like the hot press paper). It will mostly be a fuzzy green background with shades of pink hollyhocks. I hope it gets better looking quickly because I don't like looking at it the way it is.

Tissue Paper finished

I've done as much on this as I'm going to. I started out with a big mistake and I nothing is going to fix it. The problem was that I used Indigo in the shadow under the paper. It is staining and wouldn't lift no matter how hard I tried. I wanted the shadow to be much lighter. But it was a good exercise and I learned a lot. On to either a portrait or a miniature. I'll have to decide quickly as one has a deadline of the end of the month.

FYI -For anyone in the Toronto area, one of my paintings "Pushing the Limits" is in a show by the Portrait Society of Canada that runs from Mar 3 - 27 at the John B. Aird Gallery.
